Portland Mayor Sam Adams: Two Opinions

Dave Cecil, MA, UO, GTFF #3544 vs.  Michael Faris, MA, OSU, ex-CGE #6069

Both are highly opinionated.  Both are passionate about politics.  Both have egos the size of Texas.  Both usually have some idea of what they are talking about.  However, they had pretty different responses to the news.  Check them both out.

For the record, I have to go with Faris on this one – while Dave’s spot-on given current political norms, Faris chooses to challenge the acceptance of those norms in a way I strongly agree with.

That said, it’s really not looking good for Adams.

UPDATE: Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney fame (and hence someone with some serious Portland cred) also weighs in.  I’m not quite sure what to make of her take.

  1. actually, I have an MA. MFA’s are for creative writing. I do critical work. 🙂

I hope by “current political norms” you mean “a cycle of manipulation and retroactive need [that] is unifying the system ever more tightly…. Technical rationality today is the rationality of domination” (Adorno and Horkheimer). 🙂

    Error corrected.

And yes – I used the short version =)
