Walk Score

Ran across this today. I think it’s neat, and it makes me feel really guilty for not walking more.

I am a little wary of all the things it lists as businesses near my house. Many of them I’ve never heard of.

(My most common rationale for driving: Walking takes too long. Yes, I know.)

Why only walkscore? Maybe also we should use drive score (BTW it’s already used by sellers from Fizber). Or maybe train score? Any more ideas?

Because walking is environmentally friendly, and driving is not. Public transit, maybe, in places that have it. But drive score?

Sounds like an ad for Fizber to me.

buy a bike. its faster than walking, environmentally friendly, will cut down on your gas bill, and is healthy:)

Pretty cool- but the distances given don’t match up with what I have come up with using my vehicle. Now I have to check out some other sites to see what distances they give. See what you started! (Ha!)

The distances shown on both walk score and drive score are similar. The distance on Map Quest is pretty much what I have come up with when I have driven my vehicle. At first I thought walk score was expecting me to jump fences and trek through fields- but surely drive score expects me to be driving on the road! The distance shown to get to Wal-Mart from my house was off by a mile. When I have measured it at 2.5 miles and map quest shows it 2.46 miles. Being off a mile is too much and in my opinion, renders the site pretty useless.
